PBBM DECLARES OCTOBER 10-16 AS “LINGGO NG LUPONG TAGAPAMAYAPA”

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has declared October 10 to 16 of every year as “Linggo ng Lupong Tagapamayapa” in a bid to increase public awareness of the barangay officials’ role in maintaining peace and order in the community.

“There is a need to increase public awareness on the functions of the Lupong Tagapamayapa, and recognize the valuable contributions of the members thereof in the preservation and maintenance of peace and order in barangays,” the two-page Proclamation No. 358 stated.

The proclamation was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on October 9.

A Lupong Tagapamayapa is a body which exercises administrative supervision on matters relevant to the amicable settlement of barangay disputes.

The body, organized in every barangay, is composed of the punong barangay as Chairperson and not less than 10 nor more than 20 members.

Under the proclamation, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) is directed to take the lead in promoting the observance of the Linggo ng Lupong Tagapamayapa and identify events, projects, and activities that will mark the yearly celebration.

“All other agencies and instrumentalities of the National Government, including government-owned or -controlled corporations, government financial institutions, and state universities and colleges, are hereby enjoined, and all local government units, non-government organizations, as well as the private sector, are hereby encouraged, to actively participate and render the necessary support and assistance to the DILG for the effective implementation of this Proclamation,” it added. | PND
