The announcement, made on October 30 and signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, calls for the national flag to be displayed at half-mast from sunrise to sunset on all government buildings and installations, both nationwide and abroad.

This action is in accordance with the โ€œFlag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines,โ€ which designates half-mast displays during significant national tragedies.

President Marcos has urged all Filipinos to join in prayer for the victims and their families. โ€œLet us stand together in remembrance and support for those affected by this tragedy,โ€ he stated.

Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, which struck from October 21 to 25, caused extensive damage across the region, with torrential rains and violent winds leading to severe flooding and landslides.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that the storm impacted approximately 1.8 million families, affecting over 7 million individuals, and resulted in 139 fatalities.

As Metro Manila prepares to honor the victims, local governments are also mobilizing resources to assist affected communities in their recovery efforts. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
