How an online delivery platform championed elderly gays during Pride Month

The vibrant colors of Pride Month weren’t just a visual spectacle this year in the Philippines. They served as a powerful symbol of community, partnership, and support for a special group often overlooked–the Golden Gays, the elderly members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

At the heart of this heartwarming story is Lalamove Philippines, an online delivery platform that went beyond logistics to empower and celebrate, and at the same time, deliver pride and care to a minority sector.

For decades, the Home for the Golden Gays has provided a safe haven for elderly LGBTQIA+ individuals. But ensuring their well-being requires constant support. This is where the Golden Bekis, a humanitarian group dedicated to aiding the Golden Gays, comes in. Recognizing their vital role, Lalamove Philippines stepped forward as a key partner, fostering a beautiful synergy between businesses and social causes.

Kyle Mendrez, a representative from the Golden Bekis, expressed their profound gratitude, “We are incredibly thankful for the support and trust given by partners like Lalamove during Pride Month. We are also proud to share Golden Bekis merchandise with other LGBT-owned businesses. We hope for more impactful partnerships that can uplift our entire community.

Lalamove Philippines’ initiative wasn’t simply about financial aid. They acted as a bridge, connecting the Golden Bekis to two thriving LGBT-owned businesses–Butterboy Bakehouse (butterboyph.com) and Sebastian’s Ice Cream (sebastiansicecream.com). This strategic partnership created a win-win situation for everyone involved.

Lalamove Philippines sponsored P60,000 worth of Golden Bekis merchandise, which was then distributed by Butterboy and Sebastian’s Ice Cream during their Pride Month promotions.

Dale Alejandro, the Marketing Manager of Butterboy Bakehouse, highlighted the impact: “It’s an honor to support the Golden Bekis through this initiative. Their presence through their merchandise at our new branch opening created excitement and a memorable experience for everyone involved.”

On the other hand, Sebastian’s Ice Cream also echoed this sentiment. Ian Carandang, the founder, emphasized the importance of continuous support, “We’re thrilled to extend our support to the Golden Gays and Golden Bekis. This is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness and celebrate our vibrant community through our business.”

The story doesn’t end with Pride Month merchandise. Sebastian’s Ice Cream donated 20 percent of the proceeds from their Pride Month Collection directly to the Golden Bekis and the Golden Gays. This commitment to long-term support ensures a brighter future for the elderly LGBTQIA+ community.

During the public-private partnership event dubbed, first “Rainbow Care Caravan: Ang Araw na Itech ay Para Sayis,” which provided essential goods and services to elderly gays held at historic Intramuros, Lalamove Philippines also aligned with event organizer Philippine Information Agency-National Capital Region and provided 20 wheelchairs and other goods in their bid to empower the elderly LGBTQIA+ community through essential services. Free health check-ups, government assistance applications, and other fun activities all contributed to a more secure and healthy life for the Golden Gays.

“Ito po ay labor of love. Ito po ay itinawid natin para makapagbigay serbisyo sa ating mga mamamayan. Maraming salamat po sa Lalamove Philippines sa inyong suporta!” said PIA-NCR Regional Director Emver P. Cortez. (This is a labor of love. We are making this happen in order to provide services to our citizens. Thank you very much Lalamove Philippines for your unfailing support!)

Lalamove Philippines’ story transcends the realm of deliveries. The online delivery platform exemplifies the power of collaboration in creating positive social impact.

By connecting businesses and social causes, they’ve woven a tapestry of support that celebrates diversity while ensuring the well-being of a marginalized community.
