The Department of Science and Technology, in partnership with the LDN Provincial Government, City Government of Iligan City, and the Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), is set to conduct the 2023 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) sa Amihanang Mindanao for the first time in Iligan City on October 11-13, 2023.
This year’s RSTW sa Aminahang Mindanaois anchored to the theme, “Siyensya, Teknolohiya, at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Buhay.” This event provides a venue for learning and collaboration through pitching sessions, innovation dialogues, quiz competition, forums, technology demonstrations, and exhibits.
During the opening ceremony on October 11, the exhibit, which consists of more than 25 technologies, will also be launched and opened to the public. Day one will also feature a pitching session on technology adoption for entrepreneurs, innovation dialogue on Philippine Silk Innovation, and conversation on research opportunity network for the promotion of local innovation ecosystem.
Day two will stage forums on Futures Thinking and Food Safety in Plant-based Innovative Diets. There will also be a reverse pitching session that aims to turn problems into innovations through industry-based projects. A science and technology quiz competition for elementary students and technology demonstration on abaca and lampakanay fiber dyeing will also take place.
A forum intended for the manufacturing sector and the creative industry will happen on the last day of the event. Another important activity of the RSTW is the awarding of stakeholders during the Closing Ceremonies.
Concurrent to the activities, the DOST – Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) will also be bringing the Mobile Planetarium in MSU-IIT gymnasium for the first time. Viewing of the exhibits is open and free all throughout the duration of the event.
Attendance to the RSTW activities and viewing of exhibits is open to the public free of charge. A complete list and schedule of activities may be viewed through the DOST-10 Facebook page. (Ella B. Nadela, DOST-10)
