DOST VIII Set to Showcase Science, Technology, and Innovation at the 2026 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week

Science, technology, and innovation take center stage once again as the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office VIII (DOST VIII) gears up for the 2026 Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Week (RSTW) on July 15–17, 2026 at Robinsons North, Tacloban City. Anchored on the theme, “Science, Technology, and Digital Innovation Driving Food Security, Sustainable Energy, and National Resilience,” this year’s celebration brings together government agencies, academic institutions, industry partners, local government units, researchers, innovators, students, and the public in a three-day showcase of transformative technologies, knowledge-sharing, and collaborative initiatives.

The celebration officially opens on July 15 with an Opening Ceremony featuring the ceremonial opening of the Technology Fair and Exhibits, keynote messages from national and regional leaders, the launching of strategic DOST initiatives, and the signing of partnership agreements that reinforce regional collaboration for science, technology, and innovation. A luncheon press conference follows, providing members of the media with updates on DOST’s flagship programs and initiatives in Eastern Visayas.

Knowledge exchange takes the spotlight through the three Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Fora, each highlighting priority development areas. STI Forum 1 explores innovations that strengthen food security and sustainable communities, while STI Forum 2 focuses on science-based solutions for resilient and adaptive communities. The series concludes with STI Forum 3, which showcases emerging technologies, digital innovations, and sustainable energy solutions that support national resilience and regional development.

Young innovators and future scientists will also be at the forefront of this year’s celebration through the STEM Olympiad and eGames Competition, where students from across Eastern Visayas will demonstrate their knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. These activities reflect DOST’s continuing commitment to nurturing the next generation of Filipino scientists, engineers, innovators, and technology leaders.

Beyond the conference halls, participants will experience the region’s rich blend of science, culture, and tourism through the Science Tourism Project Visit, featuring the natural wonders, cultural heritage, and culinary innovations of Samar and Leyte. The activity highlights how science and technology contribute to sustainable tourism, environmental conservation, and community-based development while showcasing the unique identity and local innovations of Eastern Visayas.

The celebration concludes on July 17, 2026 with the STI Awards and Closing Ceremonies, recognizing outstanding partners and stakeholders for their contributions to science, technology, and innovation in Eastern Visayas.

Throughout the three-day celebration, visitors can also explore the Technology Fair and Exhibits, featuring DOST-developed technologies, research outputs, and interactive science exhibits from DOST offices, partner agencies, state universities and colleges, and industry stakeholders. Among the featured innovations are STARBOOKS, e-TURO, the Eastern Visayas Food Innovation Center, SARAI, GeoRiskPH and other DOST-PHIVOLCS technologies, DOST-PAGASA’s Panahon App, innovations from the Eastern Visayas Regional Research and Development Consortia (EVCIEERD, EVHRDC, and ViCAARP), innovations developed by DOST’s assisted Smart and Sustainable Cities, and many more, demonstrating how science, technology, and innovation are creating smarter, more resilient, and sustainable communities.

The 2026 RSTW serves as a dynamic platform for collaboration, innovation, and public engagement, reaffirming DOST VIII’s commitment to making science, technology, and innovation more accessible and responsive to the needs of every Filipino. The public is invited to participate in the various activities and experience firsthand how science and innovation continue to drive inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development in Eastern Visayas.
