MANILA – The Quezon City government on Thursday declared that La Loma, the city’s famed lechon district, is now free from the African swine fever (ASF) virus after the implementation of strict sanitation measures and compliance across lechon establishments.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the city government said the 14 lechon establishments in the area were issued a temporary closure order on Nov. 13, after some hogs tested positive for ASF.
“Araw-araw nagsagawa ng disinfection sa loob ng isang linggo ang mga establishment katuwang ang City Veterinary Department at QC Health Department. Ito’y bilang pagsunod sa memorandum ng Bureau of Animal Industry (The establishments, in collaboration with the City Veterinary Department and the QC Health Department, conducted daily disinfection for a week. This is in compliance with the memorandum of the BAI),” the post read.
“Sa ngayon, tatlo na sa establishments ang nabigyan ng lifting order upang muling makapagbukas matapos makapasa sa mga reglamento ng City Health Department at City Veterinary Department (To date, three of the establishments have been granted a lifting order to reopen after passing the regulations of the City Health Department and the City Veterinary Department).”
Aside from intensive disinfection, the city government said that affected lechon businesses were also required to meet stringent sanitary, safety, and health protocols before reopening.
The QC government, meanwhile, assured continued support for lechon business owners as they work to comply with protocols and uphold the quality and safety of roasted pig products. (PNA)
