MANILA — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, September 4, directed all relevant government agencies to immediately address the needs of Filipinos affected by Severe Tropical Storm Enteng.
During a situation briefing at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), President Marcos assured that the government is managing the aftermath of Enteng effectively.
“The standard procedures that we have put into place are working well. They are continuing to provide the assistance [in the] areas that have been hit. So, we can look to that as a continuing process that we always do when a typhoon comes,” he said.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported that 442,804 families, or 1,720,568 individuals, were affected by Enteng. It also reported 15 deaths, 15 injuries, and 21 missing persons. The damage and losses in agriculture were estimated at PhP350.85 million.
The President is conducting an inspection of the areas severely affected by the storm to assess the assistance required beyond the relief already provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The Chief Executive instructed the Department of Health (DOH) to intensify its information campaign on leptospirosis following the flooding caused by Enteng.
He also directed the DSWD to continue delivering relief goods, while the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) was tasked with ensuring ongoing clearing operations.
The President called on local government officials, led by the governors, to stay well-informed about the situation in their respective areas of responsibility. (PND)
