NCRPO vows security amid Metro Manila protests

MANILA —The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Thursday it is prepared to maintain peace and order during ongoing and upcoming protest actions across Metro Manila while exercising maximum tolerance toward demonstrators.

The NCRPO issued the assurance in a statement as various groups stage demonstrations in the capital region to denounce alleged corruption in flood control projects and to call for accountability from government officials and contractors.

We respect and uphold the constitutional right of every Filipino to assemble and express their views,” the police office said. “At the same time, we remind everyone that these freedoms must be carried out peacefully and responsibly, without endangering public safety or disrupting community life.”

Police units are on full alert to protect both demonstrators and the general public, according to the statement. Security measures have been implemented to prevent clashes, vandalism and traffic disruptions while safeguarding rights.

The NCRPO said it will not tolerate violations of the law despite exercising restraint with protesters.

Police appealed to participants to conduct activities with discipline and respect for the law. They also advised the public to remain alert, avoid protest areas when possible and cooperate with authorities.

The NCRPO remains committed to keeping Metro Manila safe, orderly, and secure—where freedom and responsibility always go hand in hand,” it said.

The police office did not specify which groups are staging protests or provide details about the nature of the demonstrations. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
