President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has extended the term of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil by four months via a memorandum order dated Feb. 4, 2025, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
Marbil was supposed to retire on February 7, 2025 when he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 56. Earlier, Marcos hinted at extending the PNP chief’s term to ensure stability during the upcoming midterm elections.
Marbil, the 30th PNP chief, is a member of the Philippine Military Academy’s Sambisig Class of 1991. He took command of the top police post on April 1, 2024.
In a media statement, Marbil thanked the President “for trusting and having confidence in the PNP under his leadership. “The 4 months extension will help us refine and improve the preparations we made for the election,” he said.
