Makati expands benefits for public school teachers

MAKATI CITY โ€”ย The local government of Makati City has announced an expansion and improvement of benefits for the cityโ€™s public school teachers, regardless of their residency status.

โ€œWe deeply value our public school teachers in Makati and their role in shaping the future of our youth. Teachers are the backbone of our education system, and their well-being is of paramount importance to us in Makati. We regard them as Makatizens who deserve our full support in every way possible,โ€ said Mayor Abby Binay.

The city has been providing a wide range of benefits covering both personal and professional aspects of development for teachers and non-teaching personnel of the Department of Education in Makati (DepEd Makati).

Aside from giving teachers access to the cityโ€™s comprehensive medical benefits under the Makati Health Program or Yellow Card, the local government unit (LGU) has also been providing financial incentives.

For this year, Binayโ€™s administration has allotted 103.5 million Philippine pesos for various incentives given to DepEd Makati employees. This includes a 3,000-peso monthly allowance for public school teachers, 5.2 million pesos for teaching-related staff, and 4.3 million pesos for non-teaching personnel.

The city has also earmarked 14.5 million pesos for their fringe benefit of 6,000 pesos given in December. Special education (SPED) teachers are also given a 2,500-peso monthly allowance from an allocation of 1.95 million pesos in this yearโ€™s budget.

โ€œThis added perk underscores our recognition of the extraordinary skills and effort required of teachers working with students who have special needs,โ€ Binay said.

Under the Alternative Learning System (ALS), school heads receive 3,500 pesos, while instructional managers get 3,000 pesos monthly from the city. (GLG/PIA-NCR)
