DOSTv: Science For The People, the official broadcast platform of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has garnered two prestigious awards at the esteemed 18th Gandingan Awards held on Saturday, 04 May 2024 reaffirming its commitment to delivering accessible and informative content to the Filipino people.
In a resounding triumph for science communication, DOSTv has emerged victorious at the 18th Gandingan Awards clinching two coveted titles: UP ComBroadSoc’s Choice for Gandingan ng Agrikultura and the Gandingan ng Kaunlaran: Most Development-oriented Radio/TV Station/Online Platform. DOSTv has won the major award, Gandingan ng Kaunlaran four times since 2020.
“This acknowledgment serves as motivation to continue advancing science communication in the nation. … We share this honor with the brilliant Filipino scientists, researchers, experts, and inventors who have generously shared their stories, insights, and discoveries with us. Their dedication to progressing science and technology in our country has not only fueled the content of DOSTv but has also inspired countless individuals to pursue their passions in the field”, DOST-Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII) Director Richard P. Burgos emphasized while receiving the award.
Meanwhile, the host of DOSTv’s youth-oriented science show, ExperTalk was also recognized with the Gandingan ng Kabataan. In his acceptance speech, AJ Castro underscored ExperTalk’s mission and pledged to leverage his role as a media personality for a positive impact, especially on the youth.
“On behalf of the team behind ExperTalk, we promise to carry on with our mission of imparting knowledge about science, technology, and innovation to the younger generation and I reaffirm to continue using my platform to influence and inspire the youth.”
Gandingan is an annual competition organized by the UP Community Broadcaster’s Society. With the theme, “Agrikultura: Mga Kuwento ng Hamon at Pag-asa”, the 18th Gandingan Awards recognized national, local, and online media for their coverage of pressing issues in agriculture. These include advocating for genuine agrarian reform and fair compensation for farmers, addressing concerns about food security and the rising prices of agricultural goods, and shedding light on the challenges faced by fishers and foresters, such as deforestation, overfishing, territorial disputes, and the depletion of natural resources.
