BDO, Seven Bank renew partnership to enhance convenience for overseas Filipinos in Japan

For Overseas Filipinos in Japan, convenience and reliability are top priorities when sending money back home. Recognizing this, BDO Unibank, Inc. (BDO) and Seven Bank have renewed their partnership to better serve the needs of their loyal Kabayan customers, as well as attract new ones to their growing platform.

The partnership, which began in 2017, has proven to be highly successful, benefiting both institutions and their customers. After seven years of collaboration, BDO and Seven Bank are now looking to expand their partnership to offer more products and services.

Masaaki Matsuhashi, President and Representative Director of Seven Bank, praised BDO for its customer-focused approach. “BDO shares a common value with us at Seven Bank—providing excellent customer service. BDO is passionate and proactive in offering new services, and we are excited to continue our partnership and do even more together,” Matsuhashi said.

The current service allows Filipino workers in Japan to easily transfer money to the Philippines through Seven Bank’s International Money Transfer app on their mobile phones. This collaboration addresses a key challenge faced by many Overseas Filipinos—finding time to visit banks and remittance centers during their busy work schedules.

BDO Senior Vice President and head of Remittance, Genie T. Gloria, explained, “The partnership with Seven Bank has been a game changer. Now, Filipino workers can remit money 24/7 through their mobile app and access an ATM network of 27,000 locations across Japan.”

Matsuhashi further highlighted the trust that Filipinos in Japan have in both BDO and Seven Bank. “For Filipinos living in Japan, BDO is a well-known and trusted brand, and Seven Bank shares that reputation. Both of us are considered reliable, safe, and trustworthy by Filipinos here,” he said.

BDO offers a robust network for Overseas Filipinos and their families. With BDO Kabayan Savings, beneficiaries can easily receive money 24/7 from any of BDO’s over 5,700 ATMs across the Philippines. The Cash Pick-up Anywhere service also allows recipients to claim funds at over 14,000 locations nationwide, including more than 1,700 BDO branches and BDO Network Bank branches, as well as partner agents.

In addition to BDO’s extensive reach, Matsuhashi emphasized the reliability of the partnership. “In the remittance industry, there are sometimes issues with transactions not being sent or received. With BDO, transactions are always successfully completed, which is one of BDO’s key strengths,” he noted.

This positive experience is shared by BDO’s wide network of global remittance partners, spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region.

Overseas Filipino remittances are a significant contributor to the Philippine economy, with a historic high of US$37.2 billion reached in 2023. Through this strengthened partnership, BDO and Seven Bank continue to make remittances easier and more accessible for Filipinos in Japan, ensuring reliable and secure transactions for years to come.
