Pasig City, SOS Philippines launch Rescue Kitchen Project

PASIG CITY โ€”ย To address food wastage and food insecurity, the Pasig City Government and Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Philippines signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) last February 26 launching the Rescue Kitchen Project.

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto led the signing of the agreement and expressed his support and gratitude to SOS Philippines and other partners.

The kitchen project will be accomplished by collecting surplus food that is safe, fresh, and fit to eat from various restaurants, hotels, retailers, and food manufacturers to be cooked and distributed to those in need.

During the launch, the SOS Philippines Team also explained the entire process, from preparation, packing, delivery, to distribution of the cooked meals.

The City Health Department-Environmental Sanitation Office and Pasig City Nutrition Office likewise conducted a short seminar on proper and safe food preparation, as well as some reminders on ensuring the nutritious value of the foods to be distributed to the communities.

According to the city government, the preparation and packaging of cooked foods will be carried out at the Cookery Training Facility of the Pasig City Institute of Science and Technology in Barangay Manggahan, which is managed by the Skills Development Office of the local government.

The Rescue Kitchen Project is a collaboration between community partners and volunteers from the city and SOS Philippines and its private sponsors.

Aside from practical knowledge, the local government also received kitchen equipment from SOS Philippines, which will help in the operation of the Rescue Kitchen Project in the city. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
