BATANGAS CITY, Batangas — Nineteen district, city, and municipal jails under the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Mimaropa participated in the 3rd Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) 2025, a nationwide exercise designed to boost disaster preparedness among jail personnel and Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).
The drill started with the ceremonial “Duck, Cover, and Hold” procedure, followed by the evacuation of PDLs and staff to designated safe zones. Jail officers closely supervised the activity to ensure orderly and timely implementation of the evacuation procedures.
“Exercises like this help both our personnel and PDLs understand the proper steps to take during an earthquake, while also testing the readiness of our facilities,” said Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo, Officer-in-Charge of the BJMP-Mimaropa Regional Community Relations Service.
The drill also tested emergency protocols and contingency plans, highlighting the importance of coordination and discipline during disasters.
The 19 BJMP facilities in Mimaropa currently house 2,107 PDLs, all of whom participated in the drill under the supervision of trained personnel.
The NSED is conducted quarterly nationwide under the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) to ensure preparedness and resilience across institutions and communities. (PR)
