PSA shares highlights of family income, expenditure survey

MANILA,  — In celebration of the 35th National Statistics Month Program, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) National Capital Region kicked off the event with the presentation of highlights of the 2023 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) for the National Capital Region (NCR).

During the presentation, PSA NCR Regional Director Paciano Dizon said that NCR registered the highest FIES among the regions at P513.52 thousand. This was followed by CALABARZON at P426.53 thousand and Central Luzon at P375.24 thousand.

Meanwhile, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) recorded the lowest average annual family income at P206.88 thousand followed by Zamboanga Peninsula at P257.14 thousand and Negros Island Region at P266.29 thousand.

Dizon said that poverty incidence in the National Capital Region has been consistently the lowest since 2018. He also noted that the number of food poor in the region has decreased in 2023.

In the PSA’s report, NCR likewise recorded the highest average annual family expenditure among the regions in 2023 at P385.05 thousand, followed by CALABARZON at P310.32 thousand and Central Luzon at P298.70 thousand.

Meanwhile, BARMM, MIMAROPA, and Eastern Visayas registered the lowest average annual family expenditure at P168.91 thousand, P189.77 thousand and P199.91 thousand, respectively.

This year’s celebration theme is “Advancing Data and Statistics through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation.”
