NAUJAN, Oriental Mindoro — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Naujan District Jail is keen on promoting health, wellness, and longevity to all persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in its jail facility.
Community relations service officer, Jail Officer 1 Allen Glen Delica reported Friday that the registration to the state insurer would guarantee a strong collaboration and ensure access to healthcare, and right to medical services and nutrition of PDLs.
This, he said, is the significance of the efforts and commitment of BJMP Naujan to lead better health outcome for the jail community with the inclusion of 120 PDLs in the National Health Insurance Program.
“The program would also standardize the health response of concerned agencies for PDLs, which includes strengthening of the referral system and making sure that they are informed of their benefits,” said Delica.
Meanwhile, the health service unit said, prevalent diseases in jail facilities include upper respiratory tract infections, skin diseases, allergies and conditions related to hygiene, sanitation, nutrition, stress and mental health conditions.
The BJMP and several agencies on July 2024 signed a national policy seeking to promote and protect health in jails, wherein PDLs will be granted eligibility packages by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) and they are also guaranteed 24/7 healthcare services. | via Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo, IO-BJMP MIMAROPA
